Doug Stark did his BA and MA in English at Loughborough University and will begin his Ph.D. study in the U.S.A. in August 2017. His thesis focuses on the emergent genre of the video game novel in the work of contemporary authors such as Ernest Cline, Austin Grossman and Scott Meyer and considers how these texts are encouraging readers to perceive digital games as culturally significant. His MA dissertation explored the relationship between science, technology, and subversion in Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow.
